What’s Towergate Wilsons’ background in insurance?

Towergate Insurance was launched in 1997 and is a specialist provider of insurance to niche markets. This includes a wealth of knowledge as a specialist travel insurer for individuals and groups undertaking sporting and outdoor challenges all over the world. A few years ago, Towergate Insurance entered into partnership with HotChillee as insurer to The London-Paris cyclosportive event and now uses that expertise to provide great value tailor-made insurance packages to any UK-based cycling event.

What do you know about cycling and triathlon?

We teamed up with ‘The Home of Sportives’, Cyclosport.org who have been providing calendar listings, news and info for sportives since 2003. Our policy is geared up to cater for cyclists, so unlike some other policies available, this one caters for the specific needs of cyclists. Many of the Cyclosure team also compete and take part in triathlons both in the UK and abroad.

Other providers offer insurance, why shouldn’t I choose them as a cyclist/triathlete?

Most policies aren’t designed specifically to cover cyclists or triathletes, they’re aimed at the general holiday-goer. Some have exclusions against cycling abroad, especially when competing. Always check the ‘Dangerous Exclusions’ list.

Is my bike insured?

Unfortunately not. As bikes differ greatly in value it wouldn’t be possible to offer a one-size-fits-all policy for the sportive market. Bikes can be insured separately via Cyclosure for Bikes (link). We appreciate that for many of our customers, their bike is their life!

Do you cycle?

The whole of the Cyclosure team are in training for their various cycling challenges throughout the year. Team Cyclosure competed in The London-Paris in 2012. All the expertise to develop a specific cycling product has come from feedback and consultancy from cyclists from a variety of backgrounds. It’s our passion and our business, which is a nice place to be!
