Brevet – Partner of the month
Cyclosure recently caught up with Brevet, our cycling holidays partner in Switzerland, to find out more about riding in the Swiss Alps:
Q: What was the inspiration behind setting up Brevet?
A: Switzerland has incredible scenery and quiet, high quality roads for cyclists – we have rides that are simply to good not to share so we set up Brevet to help riders explore the Swiss Alps. We also know that for our guests life is busy. So we provide the experiencing of “Holidaying like a Pro” our guests can focus on the riding whilst we take care of the rest.
Q: Why the name change from SwissRetreat to Brevet?
A: Throughout the 2012 season customers were asking for bespoke trips that would test their limits and allow them to explore more of the Swiss Alps.
Building on the heritage of challenging long distance rides known as brevet (pronounced breh-vay) we have rebranded our Swiss cycling holidays company SwissRetreat, as Brevet.
We’ve now got an amazing calendar for 2013 that takes us beyond our original base in Les Diablerets. Our guests enjoyed the more challenging bespoke trips so much we have now added Tours and Randonnées to our successful range of Swiss sportive holidays.
Q: If you could pick one “must do” Swiss sportive which event would you pick?
A: The Granfondo Gottardo is pretty special and will grow to be the next Marmotte or Maratona dles Dolomites. It’s unique in Europe as the only sportive to feature the cobbled climb of the Col du St. Gothard (2,106m). So that would be my tip – ride it this year before it gets too big!
For those who have been riding for a few years and are searching for the ultimate one day test then it doesn’t get much more challenging than the Alpenbrevet. The Alpenbrevet has three courses to choose from ranging right up to 7,031m of climbing over 276km. We have a great team of guests lined up for this year Alpenbrevet already.
Q: A lot of Cyclosure riders have been there and got the sportive t-shirt – what’s the next challenge for them?
A: It’s true that some riders get the cycling bug and quickly add the Marmotte, Etape and Maratona dles Dolomites to their palmarès. For many people the quest then goes on to improving their time or to take on sportives outside of Italy and France.
For some the next challenge is to explore their limits and replicate the efforts of the stage race riders at the Tour de France and that’s where multi stage challenges like the Tour des Diablerets and Tour du Haslital come in.
Of course for those riders who simply can’t get enough of the big mountains they can take on our signature cycling challenge, the Randonnée Alpes Suisse; starting from Geneva over 25,000 metres of climbing, 900km of world class riding and no fewer than 15 mountain passes stand between you and a well earned beer in Zurich.
Q: What has Brevet partnered with Cyclosure?
A: We are passionate about giving our guests the experiencing of “Holidaying like a Pro” and part of that is make sure we have high quality partners who share our values of attention to detail, professionalism and adventure. With Cyclosure we know that our riders can simply and quickly take care of their cycling insurance and leave more time for focusing on their riding.
Q: Finally what is next up for Brevet?
A: We’re really looking forward to the Tour de Romandie. It’s a fantastic showcase for Swiss cycling. In both 201l (Cadel Evans) and 2012 (Sir Bradley Wiggins) the winner of Romandie has gone on to win the Tour, so all the Tour de France contenders use it as a key warm up race now.
We’ve got a great group of guests for the Tour de Romandie and we’ll be riding up the Col de la Croix (1,778m) just hours before it becomes the feature climb of the 2013 Queen Stage that finishes in our Alpine base of Les Diablerets.
